Bed Bugs in Your Home

Finding and Dealing with Bed Bugs in Your Home

Bed bugs were nearly extinct in the 1950s. However, their resurgence was accelerated by the increased international travel in the last 50 years. Additionally, the discontinuation of toxic pesticides has fueled their comeback. When you are out traveling, it’s a good habit to inspect your hotel room for bed bugs. Look for places where bed bugs may have assembled, such as the mattress seams or the corners of the window blinds. Remove the sheets and flip them around so you can spot any bed bugs that may be hiding. Inspect your bed before you start unpacking your things to prevent them from sneaking into your luggage. This is because bed bugs easily could be transported back to your home. When traveling by plane or staying at hotels, there is always a chance of getting bed bugs. Inspecting your bed every time you visit a hotel can reduce the risk of being bitten. Some of the signs that bed bugs leave behind are dark spots of feces, eggs, or skin.

Bed Bug Used Furniture Risks

When you are thinking of getting furniture for your home, it might be tempting to buy used furniture, but it’s important to remember that it may contain bedbugs. You should especially avoid purchasing used furniture made of soft materials. If you are unfortunate enough to get an infestation, you should remember that trying to eradicate an infestation on your own is very difficult, so it is best to enlist the help of a professional exterminator.
